Film Review #3

Invisible Children

I had heard of the NGO Invisible Children before but, never had any real in-depth overview of their work and background until the presentation in class last week. I thought that the film did an amazing job of explaining how they ended up where they are today. They presented the information in the film in a very young, naïve way, which was appealing because they let you learn as they did. I think I would be more then able to follow if I had not had background knowledge.

I thought this film was very powerful. It was shot and made by people not much older then we are now, which I found very empowering. They go into Africa not knowing what they are looking for and just stumbling upon it. When they find kids walking, everyday, to a hospital to hide from child soldiers so they can feel safe while they sleep. The film does not have two men sitting at a desk discussing the events that took place, with pictures popping up, it has actual footage for the majority of the film. Which effects you in a different way. It was constantly these are the people, the kids, and this is their story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entirety of the film. It gives a lot of emotion, and creates an urgency

I think this film is very important. The issue is present. It is not as if we are discussing something that is over. It is informative and is getting the word out there that this is happening in Africa. After watching the film and learning about the NGO you can not ignore the issue.
