Dr Mukwege

An article published in the Guardian on May 12, 2011 states that 12% of the women in the Congo have been raped at least once, and that 48 women are raped every single hour. A Congolese Doctor, Dr. Mukwege, has helped countless number of women recover from the brutalities of rape. Dr. Mukwege works in Bukavu, where he sees an average of 10 women per day, helping them recover from some of the most severe injuries inflicted by violent rape. Mukwege was given the UN Human Rights prize and is an extremely influential and inspirational figure, who has made great strides concerning women’s rights in the Congo.
