"Genocide": Documentary
This gripping documentary which depicted the brutality of genocide and the reality of history repeating itself in the future. This film was released in 1981, prior to the devastating genocides and crimes against humanity in the 1990s which included Bosnia, Rwanda, Kosovo, and Yugoslavia. Through a mix of clever mash ups of photographs, videos, animations, and newsreels the director was able to create a gripping stimulating depiction of anti-semitism and the grim reality of the potential rise of anti-semitism throughout the world. For example the film mentioned that in a 18980 West Germany survey 18 percent of participants felt things had been better during the time of Hilter's rein. The raw images shown from the Holocaust depicting the massive human graves, extremely malnourished bodies were particularly hard to view. This documentary definitely emphasized the importance of not forgetting the horrific events of the past with the intention to not only educate and remind use of the past, but to warn us of the definite risk of future genocide.
